Who and what are you in terms of an individual in this world?
As per the latest available statistics, the world population stands at 7 billion. In numeric format it is 7,000,000,000. By the year 2050 the world population is expected to reach approximately 9 billion. We are this many human beings who are very much alike in many ways than not who are living our respective lives by sharing this one single planet and the resources within.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Yet each and every single one of us look different, do things differently, posses individual thought process and skill sets and posses individual personalities. Each one of us posses a dynamic and organized set of characteristics that uniquely influences our cognitions, emotions, motivations, and behaviors in various situations. Thus each one of us in some way have the ability to stand out as an individual by exercising our unique physical appearance, and personality and by doing things that we choose to do differently and hence shape our respective lives. This unique ability in each and every single one of us, has lead many such individuals to do several great things in their respective lives that has made them to be great people. Some have done great things within their individual small social circles and families, some have done greater things for the world, many have achieved great things for their own lives, and some set out to do greater things that shaped our world of science, politics, religions, economies, technologies and humanity. People who are very similar to us in many ways yet using their unique choices, will and thinking to stand out, be different and set out to do great things in life.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
In today’s world almost every day at least 1 amongst this 7 billion people ends up doing something great and worthy of being recognized and is therefore acknowledged by the media in some way or the other. Similarly there are several individuals who daily achieve small and big worth while things in their respective lives, communities, work places, relationships, cities, or countries. Then there are those who do such great things that almost the whole world recognizes them for their contributions and they stand taller than the 7 billion people in this world. 1 amongst the 7, 000, 000, 000 people.
Resistance to the organized mass can be effected only by the man who is as well organized in his individuality as the mass itself.
What primarily differentiates such individuals amongst the rest of us is the drive, choice and above all the purpose they find they need to fulfill in their lives. We are people who constantly endeavour in a firm mission to make our life worth while and with purpose. Every living hour of interaction with other people, nature and life is merely a process of brining purpose to our action in which we seek some deep satisfaction as we invariably carve our own individuality. Our experiences, interactions and the resulting choices we make against the obstacles and challenges in life makes us exercise our individual paths in life that is often driven by a unique purpose. Thus it is very important for each of us to realize and question our purpose in almost every aspect of our life. What is the true purpose for our respective lives? What is the fundamental purpose of working? What is the purpose of relationships? Or most importantly, what purpose do we fulfill in ours or another person’s life?
An “unemployed” existence is a worse negation of life than death itself.
~José Ortega y Gasset
Every one of us have been created uniquely with unique skills, capabilities, thought processes, and characters. But finding the unique purpose that we will fulfill is something that we have to seek, develop and accomplish ourselves. No one is going to do it for us. In order for us to understand this we first need to realize the power of our individual influence.
This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. ~George Bernard Shaw
The world of tomorrow, and the people who will live then, will live a life that has been shaped by the actions we take today. This fact will be realized more by the people who are close to you. Your family, siblings, parents, children, friends, etc. We know this too well because we ourselves life a life of the actions and steps taken by our ancestors. Similarly, we live our life today which is highly influenced by a hand full of individuals who made great contributions, inventions and discoveries. The moment we realize this simple fact and make a choice to exercise our existence to make a good influence to humanity we find purpose.
There comes a special moment in everyone’s life, a moment for which that person was born. That special opportunity, when he seizes it, will fulfill his mission – a mission for which he is uniquely qualified. In that moment, he finds greatness. It is his finest hour. ~ Sir Winston Churchill
We unknowingly often fulfill many purposed in other people’s lives. For example: we fulfill the purpose of being an adviser when one seeks this from us, we fulfill the purpose of being a friend when people need us, we fulfill the purpose of being an mentor to those who look up to us for guidance. Thus we fulfil several small purposes in life and expect them to be a worthy one. But the greatest purpose is to achieve something and leave behind something great that others shall benefit from and perhaps grow it further. And such actions are driven by challenging the norm, based on high principles, discipline and clean and greater purposes that benefit a greater cause in our lives. While the 7 billion indulge in mundane criticism, blaming the world for its ills, and take solace in monotonous mediocrity, the individual who chooses to fight the
challenges in an effort to change the status quo and sets out to fulfill his or her unique purpose makes all the difference in this world. This is the individual who still isn’t very different from us in many ways becomes the 1 in the 7 billion who due to their individual choice and the determination to be different from the rest.
A non-doer is very often a critic-that is, someone who sits back and watches doers, and then waxes philosophically about how the doers are doing. It’s easy to be a critic, but being a doer requires effort, risk, and change.
–Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
How we think, process any given information, make our choices and react is unique to us. And this shapes our world around us. We influence people and many other greater things in life by these unique and individual reactions and choices. This individual identity of ours fulfills a unique purpose in life. We matter. Our actions matter. And hence it is important to improve our actions and reactions constantly to make a better and good impact on our life and world.
A man, as a general rule, owes very little to what he is born with – a man is what he makes himself. ~ Alexander Graham Bell
You can make a unique difference. You matter! Remember that your actions and purpose has greater significance in many other people’s lives! Your contributions to mankind, world, family, and everyone you touched in your life are the only things that show your true worth and character. These are the only things that make your life worthwhile and it begins with you!
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. ~ Steve Jobs
