Progressive Development – From 2011 to 2012

So here again we move ahead. Learning from one past and leaping into another with more wisdom and lesson learnt. Poised with more knowledge and eager confidence to accomplish more for ourselves and share lot more with others in our never ending pursuit to become better, happier, wealthier and wise. Progressively evolve into better beings and do greater things in life. Perhaps from many a simple and single goal to overcome one hurdle just. It may seem simple for others but may be a major one for self. But nevertheless, progress.

I don’t think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday. – Abraham Lincoln

The Arabs may celebrate their spring, the dictators shall fall, the grief stricken victims of natural disasters shall dust themselves off their sorrow, the 99% shall learn that earning money is better than just protesting against those who have it and the loan lords may bail out the corrupt again. What was once mighty shall fall, the former free countries shall become more suffocating and arrogant, the economic super powers shall become poor while the former poor countries shall fuel the global economic growth. History shall repeat once again and the old paradigms shall die at the hands of new ideologies. Collective wisdoms and popular decisions may fail and the individual idea shall win. More heros shall die and newer ones will be born. Tablet computers will become a things of the past while the next generation seeks for cooler technologies.

God has entrusted me with myself. – Epictetus

While the world revolves and evolves each one of shall ponder upon our individual lives again. We shall each evolve as well. Perhaps we will find more meaning in faith and spirituality than religious rituals and senseless intolerance of others. We may realize that all Gods of all faith systems asks of the same morals and values while the religion and rituals made by men differ. Yet the common basics shall prevail universally where, thou shall not kill, not tell lies, respect others etc will be the norm. We may be more sincere to ourselves and to others. Perhaps we may consider forgiving others and letting our grudges and bitterness go. Instead we may learn from others, be open to the idea of self improvement, read more, learn more, become healthier, live happier lives and create nicer experiences by making better choices. Above all, we may truly take responsibility of our lives and understand that our reactions and choices are the only two things that dictate the outcome of our individual lives. Being a better, caring, humble and greater human being is much more than being an American, a good Christian, a wealthier person or an efficient yes man to your employer.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover” – Mark Twain

But as these various things shall happen at multiple levels in our lives, some will influence us while others may not. But one thing that shall continue from one year to the other is our own lives and what we do with it. How we react to it, what do we choose to do, and where do we place our values, morals and beliefs. Do we call for a protest to change the system or do we take individual efforts to change it by action, do we continue to curse our jobs and bosses or learn more and become better at it to manage it as per our wishes, do we follow other peoples opinions or venture out to learn by ourselves and form our own? Are some of the many questions we shall ask ourselves. But what ever we shall decide to do it can only happen by our courage, and the action we take towards achieving it.

The most useful piece of learning for the uses of life is to unlearn what is untrue.  ~Antisthenes

Wisdom and countless lessons lies scattered around us. Wisdom is right underneath our thumbs through our mobile browsers. Yet we choose to do things that defies common sense, logic or basic morals. We choose to do things that harms our health, hurt others, run ourselves into debts, cling on to greed, and continue to blame others for everything that is wrong in our lives but ourselves. We are wise, most intelligent of all creations, quite capable, and bustling with potential, yet we let ourselves fall victim to our laziness, excuses, and circumstances.  We must strive to learn the truth and gain the wisdom to differentiate between what is not true and what is. Then we must muster all our courage to do what is the the right things to do and stand by the truth.

If you would attain to what you are not yet, you must always be displeased by what you are.  For where you are pleased with yourself there you have remained.  Keep adding, keep walking, keep advancing.  ~Saint Augustine

So, if it wasn’t the year before it is perhaps the coming year! The year where we shall no longer sit still and let things happen to us. The year where we shall take charge of our individual lives and get off that couch of comfort. We may live or die, but we know we have this one chance and one life to do what ever we can and wish for. We shall seek out the opportunities, and the chances to become better and successful in life. We shall no longer wait for wisdom and luck to fall in our laps. We shall evolve, become better and do greater things in life. Just keep asking yourself one thing: “What am I doing to make myself better?”, take action towards becoming better and the world will become a much better place. Happy New Year!

“The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough.”
– Randy Pausch
